Genuine Official Game Of Thrones Season 6 Hbo 2016

HBO released a slew of new Game of Thrones posters this morning and, just like the teaser that came before, this part of the ad campaign is very focused on the dead. Mix in the Hall of Faces of the House of Black & White, the posters show characters long dead (Robb Stark, Ned Stark, Oberyn Martell, etc.), still living (Daenerys Targaryen, Daario Naharis, Sansa Stark, Nymeria Sand, etc.), và somewhere in-between (Jon Snow). Their faces frozen in deathly repose (but with a little more hair than they had in the teaser), here are the characters we’ve grown to lớn love over several seasons, reduced to lớn corpses. But what does it all mean?

There’s one very obvious interpretation. Whether or not he is coming back lớn the show (he is), this is a neat way for HBO and Game of Thrones lớn continue to use Kit Harington’s face in their sale campaigns. The Hall of Faces setting and the inclusion of actors we know are gone (e.g., Pedro Pascal) makes Harington’s involvement less of a stand-out shock than it was when he showed up solo on this earlier poster.

But is there an even bigger Season 6 trò chơi plan in play? It’s not a spoiler to say that Jon Snow may not be the only presumed-dead character to return this season. In fact, resurrection may be the theme of the upcoming year. More details on that after the spoiler jump, but suffice it lớn say that a favorite saying of House Greyjoy—“What is dead may never die”—would have made for a very good tagline this season.

We saw the Night’s King raise a legion of undead warriors during the “Hardhome” episode last season, but that’s not the kind of resurrection we’re most concerned with for Season 6. There are a lot of dead or presumed-dead characters slated lớn return this season. Let’s count them down.

In addition khổng lồ Melisandre potentially raising Jon Snow from the dead, there’s every reason khổng lồ believe that Sandor Clegane a.k.a. The Hound (Rory McCann) will be back this year. This is less a case of “back from the dead” and more a case of “hunh, we never saw him actually die, did we?” Though the return of the Hound is not confirmed in the books, there is a solid theory that a character known as the Gravedigger is actually Clegane in disguise. McCann has been spotted around the set và back in November Ian McShane said his new Season 6 character is “responsible for bringing somebody back that you think you’re never going to see again. I’ll leave it at that.” Rumors that McShane is playing a version of Septon Meribald—a book character who crosses paths with the Gravedigger—makes it all seem pretty likely that we’ll see the Hound’s ugly mug again. Hey, if resurrection worked for one Clegane brother, why not both?

That’s two returning characters. Next we have Shae (Sibel Kekilli), the prostitute with a necklace of gold who Tyrion strangled back in Season 4. Kikelli has been spotted on the Mereen set in a costume that makes it look lượt thích she might appear as a Mereenese commoner. Shae is dead, no doubt about it, but there’s a strong possibility that either Tyrion or Varys (probably Tyrion) will hallucinate her face in the crowd.

Then we have all the ghosts who will be popping back up in the show courtesy of the vision quest Bran và the Three-Eyed Raven will go on. As he learns to lớn harness his visions, Bran will be traveling through key moments in Westerosi history (don’t gọi it a flashback!) & we know that at least some versions of Ned Stark, King Robert, và young Hodor will return, và we’ll probably get Lyanna Stark, Rhaegar Targaryen, & more appearing to lớn fill in some of the shadowy backstory of the main characters. It’s not exactly “back from the dead,” but it counts.

Another cheating way to get some dead characters back into the kích hoạt comes courtesy of the theater troupe Arya will interact with this year. We know that Essie Davis will play a version of Cersei in a theatrical retelling of the death of King Robert. But there are also fictionalized versions of dead King’s Landing characters like, well, Robert, Joffrey, & more who will pop back up khổng lồ remind us of all the fun royal intrigue of Season 1. Not to mention the fact that at any time, Arya could put on the face of someone we once knew.

Given that the Greyjoys will play a major role this year, the resonance of their prayer to lớn the Drowned God—“What is dead may never die”—makes a lot of sense. But it’s possible that all these various forms of resurrection for Jon Snow, the Hound, Ned Stark, Joffrey Baratheon, Shae, and more will also help pave the way for the mother of all returns. That’s right, what is dead may never die, including the hope that among all the old returning faces we’ll see this season, we’ll finally get khổng lồ see Catelyn Stark again in the form of Lady Stoneheart. For more on that, read up here. As for the rest of you, get hype.
